OTTOBRE design® is a fabulous, inspiring, sewing and pattern magazine for creative people!

The company behind OTTOBRE design® is Studio Tuumat Oy – a bright and energetic design company from Finnish Lapland. We are located in Rovaniemi, a small town on the Arctic Circle. Lapland provides an inspiring and peaceful environment close to nature, which is ideal for creating fresh Scandinavian design. In addition to the OTTOBRE design® kids and OTTOBRE design® woman magazines, we produce pattern series, small DIY kits and e-patterns and we have a lovely fabric and sewing supply shop on Etsy. 

 

OTTOBRE design® clothes are now being sewn using the patterns in Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Spanish, Swedish and Russian versions of our magazine.

OTTOBRE goes nostalgic - memories of a safari from 10 years ago 

In 2015, our magazine celebrates its 15th anniversary. One of our loyal customers sent us a heart-warming letter of congratulation. Thanks for your lovely comments, Vera! Here's what she wrote:  

 

"I bought the current issue of Ottobre yesterday. At home, I noticed that it was actually the 15th anniversary issue, congratulations! I still have the very first issue stashed in a drawer somewhere (and a fair number of issues in between). My first Ottobre sewing projects were made for my friends' kids but these days I sew mostly for my own family. The best thing is that the elegant, timeless designs are wearable year after year! Unlike Ottobre, most other sewing magazines outdate quite embarrassingly in fifteen years. Thanks for a job well done! I am thrilled to be holding in my hands yet another beautiful magazine!"  

 

Encouraged by Vera's message, we ventured to take a peek into our back issues, the ones stacked at the bottom of our office closet. With pounding hearts we opened the summer issue of 2005. You know those curious feelings you get when you turn pages in an old photo album? This magazine awoke the same kind of emotions in us. Our minds were filled with fun memories and also a pinch of nostalgia, especially when we saw photos of the cute toddlers who are now teenagers. Yet it was quite astonishing how contemporary and wearable the designs still look today! 

 

The photos from this back edition feature children exploring the savannah in the company of a herd of giraffes and wearing comfortable safari-style outfits. The same magazine also includes patterns for sweet linen outfits, suitable for summery occasions: shorts, shirts, tops and pants, as well as a dress and a wrap skirt for both mother and daughter. You'll also find cute fairy dresses for a baby girl and a 70's style overall for a toddler plus football kit and a tennis dress for sporty older kids. Kids' sizes from 62 to 170 cm and women's sizes from 34 to 46.
