Seriously, Washington? You're such a show off. I spent one of my last days in Washington on and around Mt. Baker. That's a really special place...and while I'll never abandon my beloved state of Maine, full of its own beauty and goodness, I certainly can appreciate now the love I know so many people have for the Pacific Northwest. I have been listening for years as so many people around me talked dreamily about that part of the world. My Dad, who climbed Mt. Rainer and has such a soft spot in his heart for that mountain and surrounding area. My own husband, who lived in Portland and Washington in the years just before we met - skiing the mountains, and kayaking the creeks. Well, with just the very little glimpse I had during my visit, I totally get it now. I really do.
Phoebe, Demetria and I wandered around and admired - dipping our toes in the cold, cold water, stopping here and there for snacks and photos and admiring the beauty. I have to tell you how blessed I was in my traveling companions on this trip. Those two sweet ladies - who make me feel simultaneously so very young and ridiculously old - were a delight to spend such close time with. There's so much we share in common, despite our daily lives looking so vastly different from one another's. Such as, they're perfectly happy to go along with my story that we did all see mountain goats (despite the fact that I wasn't wearing my glasses and wouldn't have seen them if they were right in front of me). But it just seemed like a place where mountain goats should be (and I guess they are), and so who knows, maybe we did see one after all! That's a much more fun story to come home with. Plus photos of this amazing spot that look as though it's a fake background, it's just so picturesque. I think babies would love it out there - all of them - and I look forward to the day we can visit again.
But now....those babies need some hugs and my garden needs some love! Wishing you and yours a lovely start to your week!
