Ah, what a good week in the garden it's been! Plenty of rain and lots of sunshine (with my apologies and sympathies to those of you experience drought at the moment). There seems to be a slight pause in the work of the garden at the moment, as everything is tucked into the spaces it needs to be in for now, the weeding is manageable, and the harvesting is still easy. The pests - for the most part - are at bay after Steve caught the first round of potato bugs early. We are harvesting quite a few things - kale, chard and lettuces, radishes and peas, and many many herbs. The elderflowers are ready (cordial, here we come!), and the raspberries are so very close to taking off, with blueberries right behind them.
My one disappointment so far in the garden has been carrots. Carrots! That's a big deal! The germination on those were just terrible, even the second go round. I tried once more, and hopefully that will do the trick. We can't be without a surplus of carrots now can we? I think not.
Annabel's corner of the garden is all but hidden with the tall potato plants in front of it. She loves that - a secret hideaway spot, she says. And I can't wait until the corn grows just a little bit more, so she's fully surrounded by tall green plants, snug in her corner with a book and her hammock. Ah, that's the life. I think it's time I move a chair back there to join her.
