Experienced spinners tell me that I will someday miss my bulky, irregular beginner-spun yarn. I have faith that they know what they're talking about, and that someday my handspun yarn will be a bit more, regular, and perhaps not so huge. I have faith, but it's hard to believe! Because right now I'm dealing with a whole lot of spun yarn that defies all gauge. It's somewhere between Bulky and Super Bulky, but really not one or the other. Which is making projects a bit tricky in the making. I'll have to start thinking of some projects in which gauge matters little - pillows and such? Hmn.
For now, I'm never exactly sure what size anything I make will end up. Which is okay when we're talking hats in a family of seven - it's bound to fit someone! And so it was that Annabel ended up with this new hat this week (knit with the yarn I recently dyed). The pattern is The Vermonter. It calls for a super bulky, which my yarn isn't quite. So I knew it would be a bit smaller, but her head ended up being just the right size. It was a bit like Goldilocks, trying the hat on down the line. Being very much in love with the story of the Three LiIttle Bears at the moment, she was more than thrilled when the hat got to her and it was "just right".
