Greetings from root&star!
root&star magazine brings beautiful art, stories, poems, and activities to young children. We love to inspire (and be inspired by) the WHOLE child—the wise, the wild, the strange, and the sweet.
Children see you get your magazines in the mail (hi, Taproot!), and they love to receive special gifts in the mail, too. As a family, you can get cozy and enjoy root&star magazine together—which is peaceful and silly and thoughtful and definitely gorgeous. As you flip through the pages, you and your child can feel more grounded, peaceful, and uplifted by the beauty and wildness of true art and quality children’s literature delivered to your door six times a year.

In the children’s literature I read daily, I see a very expansive genre: it can include poetry, fables, facts, total nonsense, and the richest wisdom I’ve known. I did not often find the depth of beauty in children’s magazines, though, so I decided to make one myself. I gathered a cohort of dreamy parent-artists and non-parent artists whom I have long admired, and together we each contribute a small, meaningful piece of art to root&star magazine that is rigorous in its technique while also inspired by the children we love, the little ones we read to day and night (and night and day). By creating this collaborative labor of love, we hope to inspire families to see the beauty in their children, and to inspire children to be their whole selves—to feel all of their wisdom and their wildness.
With my co-Editor, also a writer, artist, and mother of two, we launched our first two issues this year, and we are so pleased with their quality. Because we are ad-free, we are indebted to our tiny readers and their generous caregivers, who help us to continue to make and grow.
