Five year old birthdays are among some of the best, I think. The excitement about a WHOLE DAY all about celebrating their growing, fabulous selves? It's a holiday. And then add in one little girl who most loves being the center of attention, and well, there's some serious build up happening around these parts to her birthday that is still a few weeks away. She's been counting down for a very long while now, as evidenced by the paper chain next to her bed that she talks about all day and anticipates throughout dinner. "Who wants to watch me rip off today's paper on my chain before bed tonight?" she asks the lot of us, enticingly, as though we can't imagine being so blessed as to receive an invitation to that most delightful affair (most of us indulge her and appropriately cheer. Such is the life, I now see, of a youngest child!).
Naturally, there is some making happening. Particularly, perhaps, because this little one is such a strong supporter of the handmade. Or rather, she is happy to declare things made my her mother or her sister or her brother (though often she'll still insert herself as the maker, and that's okay too. No one corrects her. See above about the youngest child.). It's a bit all over the map, this making, and I'm not entirely sure what exactly will get done. But I do know for certain that whatever we do finish in time for her birthday celebration later this month, it will, without a doubt, be pink.
Back to the making!
