We paid a visit to Sintra yesterday, and now I understand why so many of you insisted I go there! Of course the palace was colorful and grand (and oh my little ones would have loved it all), but the grounds and gardens even more so. Rather than hopping from palace to palace in Sintra as we had originally planned, we instead spent an entire afternoon walking up and down the hills and around and around the wooded paths of Palace de Pena. So good it felt to be surrounded by all that natural and cultivated beauty. And yes, just as they say about that place, a bit of a fairy tale.
