Greetings from Root & Star!
Root & Star magazine brings beautiful art, stories, poems, and activities to young children and those who love them. We seek to inspire (and be inspired by) the WHOLE child—the wise, the wild, the strange, and the sweet.
Children see you get your magazines in the mail (hi, Taproot!), and they love to receive quality gifts in the mail, too. As a family, you can enjoy Root & Star magazine together—which is peaceful and silly and thoughtful and gorgeous. As you flip through the pages, you and your child have the chance to feel more grounded, thoughtful, and uplifted by the beauty and wildness of true art and quality children’s literature delivered to your door SIX times a year.
Christine and I are both writers and artists who then became mothers. She is situated in Seattle, while I am in Virginia. We both found ourselves wishing for a project that could fulfill us and connect us to other artists and parents. By creating this collaborative labor of love, we hope to inspire families to see the beauty in their children and in the world, and to inspire children to be their whole selves—to feel all of their wisdom and their wildness. We believe that people of all ages can enjoy quality art and literature, and that children’s literature should be beautiful and thoughtful enough that the whole family can be inspired by it.

SouleMama: Since the last time you were featured on SouleMama, in what ways has your business grown or changed? Is there anything new you'd like to tell us about?
We launched our first six issues this year, and we are so pleased with their quality. We are now sold in Whole Foods and Barnes & Noble, which is exciting to get to reach so many people with a small, heartfelt publication. I make a lot of the art for the magazines, design them, and mail them myself outside of a tiny room in my tiny house. I love to see who subscribes and feel connected to all parts of the country and even the world, sending a wish for wellbeing as I ship the magazine out the door. I hope that people will consider gifting Root & Star magazine during the holidays, and I always ship within the week and can even include a handwritten gift note. Because we are ad-free and have no external funding, we are indebted to our tiny readers and their generous caregivers, who help us to continue to bring beauty and literature to young families.
This weekend, Root & Star is generously offering the following gifts to TWO lucky SouleMama readers:
A year’s subscription to Root & Star children’s magazine! You will find this gift in your mailbox SIX times a year, bringing extra joy, nature, and wonder into your home — plus a beautiful silkscreened tote bag, handmade in New Hampshire.
Enjoy! — Courtney & Christine
