We are having a rainy week here, which suits just fine for the kinds of things we need to be doing right now. The big boys are back to school and the younger three are settling into a bit of an inside rhythm. Surely September and October will hold plenty of outdoor adventures, but it does feel good to get a head start on the nesting for the season to come. Tucking food away, and especially cleaning and tidying and making new spaces. It's that season, you know. And I find myself noticing how our lives change, as they always do, and our needs for our space along with it. We said goodbye to a few little kid toys this weekend, and it was so clearly time for them to go that no one even noticed their absence besides me who got a little teary at the ending of that era. And simultaneously, we said hello to a whole lot more of other things - namely open desk space which is in so high demand around here these days!
As always, when I move things around, the kids immediately flocked to a "new" corner. The very same things were set up in the very same room just a day prior, but in another spot and differently. A fresh view makes all the difference and has prompted more imaginary play amongst the three of them than I've seen around those particular toys in a good long while. They've been absorbed in that for so long the past two days that I've been able to keep going beyond that room and into others! It feels lovely.
The chimney will be cleaned this weekend. There was some talk at the dinner table recently of holding out until November first for the first fire in the wood stove, but you know...I see no reason for that. Cozy is so good.
