I'm just home after a fun and busy week on an island, chaperoning Calvin's cross-country team's annual "running camp". A whole lot of cooking, cleaning, chaperoning and stinky sneakers filled my days, interspersed with slipping away for moments of work and oceanside knitting. My littles joined us towards the end and more island adventure ensued. It was a great week, perfect running conditions, and oh such a great group of kids they all were (being exhausted from all that running might have been helpful in keeping the rambunctiousness down!). It's been a pleasure watching this group of kids grow up through high school, and watching as new ones join the crew each year. Watching my son and his friends in the context of the whole team, now as the oldest in the crew, put into perspective just how much they have grown, and how deserving they are of the status of being seniors now. Here we are, at that amazing time of life for them!
And what a delight to be reminded just how much I love the coast of Maine. I mean, I never really do forget it, but sometimes it slips into the everyday and I don't pause long enough, or make time for special trips like this, to really appreciate it. I did this week, and it feels so good. Though....I'm certainly okay with the strong WiFi signal and hot shower I'll find on the mainland at home!
Cheers to summer adventures!
