I tucked two little campers into their cabins up north this weekend. Adelaide and Harper settled into camp life just fine, it being something they look forward to all year long. Ezra will go in a few weeks. This is Harper's first year and I've been so nervous for him, but will you look at that first photo? He was right at home, saw many friends right away, and has his older sister there if he needs her. Sigh. It's a quiet house here now! Annabel very much thinks she's ready for sleep away camp, as as true to the nature of this youngest child of mine, she surely would be ready but I'm not! So next year it is for her, and this year? It's Mama Camp, as she's been calling it. With Pop at work during the day (and I'm not going into work this week), and the teen boys busy with their work/sleep/social calendars...it really is just Ani and I. We started our first day with breakfast in the garden, followed by making her proper list of what she wants to do at Mama Camp. It mostly involves trips to the beach with Calvin and his girlfriend, ice cream every day, and a movie date with Ezra. So much for the Mama part of Mama Camp!
Nonetheless, we got right to it. It's so quiet with just one in the house, and I can't believe how much we were able to do in one day! Her bedroom got a proper good cleaning and rearrange, making play all the more pleasant. And there was swimming. And an attempt at learning crochet. And of course ice cream.
It's such a rare treat in a family our size to get one-on-one time like this, though we surely try to make it happen. But a whole week like this is just delightful, soaking up my little firecracker sweet pea....before she's out the door too!
