I'm just home from a lovely weekend away, on a favorite Maine island, with a group of women for a writer's weekend. I'm so grateful for the invitation, and so full-up after a weekend during which I didn't drive anyone around, make any meals, or clean, except behind myself! The companionship with other women? Even more delightful.
I did a little bit of writing, but not a lot, really. I did a lot of sitting, and that was dreamy and very much needed. Imagine that! Sitting still on a beach by myself. There was knitting too, of course. And reading. I brought my favorite book of the moment - a poetry book by Ada Limon. I was recently introduced to her work and have been savoring her words each night before I fall asleep (reading poetry at night being a new strategy to somewhat calm my mind for a hopefully restful night of sleep). I highly recommend her work to anyone, her latest book The Carrying being a beautiful collection. This morning, I want to share just one line that has stayed with me since I first read it, and that I've quoted to so many people lately, I love it so -
The big-ass bees are back, tipsy, sun drunk
and heavy with thick knitted leg warmers
of pollen.
(From Dandelion Insomnia in The Carrying)
Isn't that just such a perfect vision? I love it so.
Wishing you a peaceful start to your week, and a reminder to us all to pause and notice when we can.
